Tax free shopping allows you to save up to 6% of the purchase price when you are shopping in Singapore. Save money and claim the tax you have paid in just three easy steps with the Electronic Tourist Refund Scheme (eTRS).

SHOW IT

The Electronic Tourist Refund Scheme (eTRS) allows you to use one credit card as a token for linking all your purchases and receiving GST refund. Simply show your passport and credit card, when making a purchase. If you do not have a credit card, you can also use each Ticket issued at the point of purchase to apply for your refund claims. Your eTRS Ticket is automatically issued with all your purchase details.

RETRIEVE IT

Before departing from Changi Airport, visit the eTRS self-help kiosk with your purchases, receipts, passports and use the credit card that you have assigned as a token to retrieve all your purchases. If you did not use a credit card as a token, you can scan your eTRS Tickets individually to retrieve your purchases. Next, you will see the status of your refund claims on the screen of the eTRS self-help kiosk. If your refund claim is approved, you be issued a Notification Slip. For transactions not approved, please proceed to Customs inspection Counter purchases for digital validation.

COLLECT IT

Finally, collect your money. If you have opted for credit card refund, your refund will automatically be transferred to your credit card once the Central Refund Counter receives your validated eTRS Ticket.

For cash refund options*, you can check in and then proceed to the Central Refund Counter on Departure Transit Lounge (after Departure Immigration) to get your refund.

*An administration fee of SGD100 is payable to the Central Refund Counter for refund value exceeding SGD7,500 (single or multiple receipts).

What must you do to qualify for tax refund?

  1. You must spend a minimum amount of SGD100.00 (including GST) on purchases from the same retailer in the same day to qualify for tax refund. You may accumulate up to a maximum of 3 same-day receipts or invoices from the same retailer to meet this minimum purchase amount.
  2. You are to carry small items of high value in your hand luggage and present the goods, eTRS Ticket and Invoice or receipt to Singapore Customs at the GST Refund Inspection Counter in the Departure Lounge after immigration.
  3. If the goods are too bulky to hand-carry on board the aircraft, present the goods, eTRS Ticket and Invoice or receipt to Singapore Customs in the Departure Hall before checking the goods in You must depart with the goods within 12 hours after your eTRS Ticket has been endorsed by Singapore Customs.
  4. For student pass holders, you must fulfil all the above criteria and have purchased good during the last 4 months before the student pass expiry date, and intend to depart with the goods and remain outside of Singapore for a minimum period of 12 months.Still unsure about the process of getting your tax refund?
