CARINA LAU RETURNS IN SELF-PORTRAIT’S
LUNAR NEW YEAR CAMPAIGN

“ACTS BEHIND THE SILVER SCREEN”

Legendary actress Carina Lau returns in self-portrait’s Lunar New Year campaign, celebrating the Year of the Snake.

Joining Carina Lau in this imaginative campaign, captured by Feng Li, are Anna Kamiyama, a close friend of Lau;

Bowie Wu Fung, the celebrated actor who rose to fame with his debut film Men's Hearts in 1953; and William Chang,

the legendary art director and producer behind Wong Kar Wai's iconic films.

Rooted in the collective memories of growing up with TVB dramas, the new campaign pays homage to the way stories

shaped lives, brought imaginations to life and connected families and loved ones. These dramas were more than just

entertainment - their stories enriched simple meals, often described as “TV gravy mixed with rice” (电视汁捞饭). selfportrait

revisits these formative moments with a cinematic campaign capturing intimate glimpses into festive life in

Hong Kong, intertwining nostalgia with the glamour of modern celebrations.

The campaign unfolds over two ‘Acts Behind the Silver Screen’, each depicting different scenes:

ACT I

The scene opens in the heart of Hong Kong, where the festive spirit of Lunar New Year comes alive. At the famed Yat

Lok restaurant in Central, the room is filled with the warmth of celebration and shared traditions. Carina Lau is joined

by William Chang and Bowie Wu, who plays a waiter, as they gather for a feast. With the table as a stage for storytelling,

the characters’ interactions reflect the joy of coming together set against Hong Kong’s vibrant culinary culture, the

campaign celebrates the universal connection found in sharing a meal.

ACT II

The story continues in a Hong Kong hotel, where the line between actors’ on-screen personas and their private lives

blurs. Carina Lau and her friend Anna Kamiyama take center stage, stepping into the roles of characters whose stories

spill out into the vibrant streets of the city. Hong Kong’s iconic red taxis play a crucial and supporting role, weaving

through this cinematic narrative.

In the lead up to Lunar New Year, further campaign images will be released in early 2025. To coincide with the

campaign, a Lunar New Year capsule collection also launches today.
